Jack sets out with his axe to find the perfect tree—one he can "chop, hack, and stack" for firewood. Along the way, a woodpecker, a squirrel, and a spider show him their own "perfect" trees, which they use for homes and food. Jack eventually realizes that every tree is perfect as it is and leaves his axe behind, returning the next day to climb and enjoy the forest instead.
