Centuries ago, an orphan boy named Leif is forced to escape his small fishing camp when the plague reaches his family. Taking to the sea in a cedar canoe, Leif flees for the fjords northwards, finding one danger after the next as he searches for survival and for a new life and sense of self after loss.
