The unit investigates the anchoring phenomenon: Why do we see different things in the sky at different times of the year? focus on the predictable patterns of the Earth-Sun-Moon system. Students explore the causes of lunar phases, eclipses, and the changing seasons. Using provided materials such as precision light sources, scaled Earth and Moon models, 3D celestial spheres, and spatial positioning tools, students develop and refine models to explain the orbital mechanics and gravitational interactions that govern our solar system. Aligned with NGSS Earth and Space Science standards, the kit challenges students to use physical models and data sets to predict astronomical events over time.
