He was also a hard-drinking partier, gambler and womanizer. However, when Oskar became convinced that Hitler's plans to eliminate the Jews were wrong, he set up a factory to employ as many Jews as possible. This would make the Nazis think they were essential for the war effort, and would protect them from deportation to concentration camps and certain death.
