The day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor is December 7, 1941. It's often called "a date which will live in infamy," and Sailor Eldon Baxter was there. This Iowa boy was an eye witness to the horrors of that day. As a storekeeper on the USS West Virginia, he was below deck, but heard the noises that morning and came up to see a Japanese pilot wave at him before dropping a bomb. Eldon's story has been told by young Charlotte Barnes, who was honored to meet one of the last Pearl Harbor survivors in Davenport, Iowa. She brought his story to life for young readers.
