Eighth grader Cory is part of the dance crew Eight Blitz, whose goal is to win the annual Bronx Kids Battle dance competition before they split up to attend different New York City high schools. But when their strict training regimen causes Cory's grades to slip, his parents hire tutor Sunna and require him to get his grades back up. Sunna is a yo-yo master and Cory is interested in learning tricks from her, which eats into his dance practice time, angering his crew. At first Cory tries to please everyone--his parents, his dance crew, and Sunna--but eventually Cory realizes he must make his own decisions and set his own priorities.
