Eleven-year-old Avery Lee loves her family, but sometimes she wishes she could have a little bit of space from her six siblings. They're noisy and chaotic, and her younger siblings love her a little too much. So when her grumpy older brother Theo gets his own room and her baby brother, Max, moves into the room she already shares with her clingy sister Pearl, Avery has had enough. She comes up with a plan to get her own room all while helping Max learn how to sleep through the night, dealing with changes in her friendships, and finding the perfect piece of art to enter in the town art fair at the end of the summer.
