In the valley of Galatea, a young orphan girl named Suri longs to be a monster tamer. She travels with a merchant caravan until the day she stumbles upon magical twine and is chased by caitsiths who want it back. Suri is rescued by two unlikely heroes and the three companions set off in search of monsters to tame.
