Salem Hyde is a young witch in training, who often gets more in trouble than completes her witch studies. To help her stay on task, her witch parents get her an animal companion, a familiar, the cat Percival J. Whamsford III. At a school spelling bee, Salem tries to use spells to help with her spelling, and everything goes wrong.
