Eight-year-old Twig and her six-year-old sister Turtle, who live in a tiny house, learn that a new toy store is opening in town and they will have to decide which of their five toys they will give away if they want to buy a new toy. However, when they visit the store, they learn that the owner has toys organized into toys for girls and toys for boys. The girls are flabbergasted and set about teaching the owner that there is no such thing.
